“The Tim Pierce Signature OD/Boost was designed to emulate one of Tim’s favorite amps, the Naylor SD60. This is a very smooth, warm, punchy drive made to really shine with singing leads. The Power Amp section is fat and loud with nothing but punch, designed to emulate the sound of a full blown tube power amp using 5881′s.
The power amp section was created to emulate the 5881 servo tube found in the Naylor SD60. Even if you engage the “power amp” section at unity volume, it will add a certain amp-like fatness to your overall sound. You can also use it as a solo boost as well.
Both sides can be used separately or cascaded together, giving you a distinct 2 in 1 pedal.“
My Quick Review
I’ve always been a massive fan of everything Tim Pierce does. So when he announced a signature pedal it didn’t take much to persuade me to get one, and what a great pedal it is. Super versatile with its EQ, letting you sculpt the overdrive to exactly what you need, and the Power Amp boost just to send the tone to another level.
I’ve used this pedal in a couple of different ways. For a long time it was on my breakout board in front of my Helix, with the “Power Amp” always on. Just adding a bit of…something to the signal. Fattening the tone ever so slightly, and improving the digital tones I was getting from the modeller. It also acted as an extra gain stage should I need more than what the Helix was giving me. The other way was to use it in front of my valve amps. This is where it shines. The overdrive from this pedal is so natural sounding, it always seems to just give me mere of my amp, which is often what I want. Then gain stack it with something like “Klon” style pedal and it just sounds amazing.
I love this pedal, and, when I use a “real” pedalboard, it has become one of my go to drives. It’s not coming off my board any time soon.
